Yet like all gossip, what is hot potatoes one day is cold soup the next...
Sorry, the name's Doris, or Dori if I like you. My husband and I run the only inn in town. It's a good sized town located on a major trade route, so we get all kinds of types in here. I cook for the guests and the townsfolk in our restaurant downstairs. It's pretty much the town's social hub. I gotta say I like all the hustle and bustle that surrounds the place, keeps things interesting.
I guess that's why she started coming around.
She was still young, a bit shy mind you... She wouldn't even set foot in the door till I made her. Liked to just sit outside and watch all the commotion though the window. She was there almost every night, but whenever I went out to try to talk to her, she just ran right off.
One night after about a month of window watching, I managed to sneak up on her...
"Pretty nice night, eh?"
"Ahhh! I'm sorry! I was just looking, I'll be off!"
"No no, It's fine. Say... What's your name?"
"My... My name? Uhh... It's not important... well... that is to say... I..."
"Alright then Miss. Mystery, why don't you come in for a cup of tea and some hot soup? You'll catch cold if you keep hanging out out here all the time."
And that was how it all began. Over the years now she has been helping out in the kitchen and inn when she can. She's very quiet about herself but loves to talk to the guests, always eager for their stories. I have to admit though, strange things seem to happen when she is around. Almost... magical things...
I really like the direction this is taking, but I must admit I have no idea where I'm going to make this go. Great job Lauren.
ReplyDeleteTHIS IS AWESOME.
ReplyDeleteI really like how you just took the story and made a whole new setting, new characters, new direction... but still managed to keep the old stuff fresh!!!
I LOVE how you titled it "Dori"!!!!! GAH! So many possibilities!!!!! :-D
Great job!
I wonder what kind of magic things are happening... :3
ReplyDeleteGood luck Spanky!
I have to admit I'm having a bit of a panic attack knowing people are reading my writing. I haven't written since college and I've rarely let anyone read anything I've written! This is certainly a new and exciting experience for me! Almost like a roller coaster or skydiving!
ReplyDeleteI know... but once you do it a few times, you get use to it!
ReplyDeleteAnd maybe even start looking forward to it? :D
1- I love it! And the accent! Lauren, this is exhibitionism at its finest!
ReplyDelete2- Spencer, don't worry about quality so much as enjoying yourself, and making it entertaining/interesting in general. If the story is good the quality is too!
3- Put me down in the order as after Spanky! Then Jill and Will can bring up the rear! Sound good?
: )
I'm so excited to see how the story will change and evolve with everyone adding their own brain stuff to it!
ReplyDeleteSpanky, do you think you can post a short addition to the story by tomorrow night?
ReplyDeleteOtherwise, I think we'll have to move on in the cycle to give other people a chance to write!
