Character Bio - Nausico

The setting my character comes from is isolated from most of the world. 

Similar to England, there are rolling hills and forests scattered along a mountain range that nearly cuts a small village community, known as the Eastern Squall, off from the rest of the known world. This results in a technologically repressed society that focuses on farming, some fishing and gathering for resources.

The land that Eastern Squall is built upon is essentially a sanctuary for pilgrims, though often they stumble upon Eastern Squall by chance more. The people from the village are very respectful of their sheltered environment and have (to some degree) managed to live in peace with the surrounding wild life without disturbing it.

  Nausico is commonly seen wearing very little decoration or coloring in his clothing, preferring to stick to traditional brown or tan hemp or cotton. He wears thin shoes, short sleeves, and loose fitted pants during warmer seasons. During colder weather, he brings out a deep-grey set of tunic and pants along with thin, fingerless gloves. He doesn't own a second pair of shoes.

  unkempt cut (due to lack of proper barbering), about 3-4 inches length with a mild mullet. Very unkempt and untrimmed.

Nausico could easily go unnoticed in a crowd... if it weren't for his platinum hair and mysterious purple eyes!

He is average hieght, though skinny, and always seems to walk or sit in a slouching position unless the center of attention. His boy-ish face is fair, but not strikingly beautiful. Because of his hair and eyes, he is often thought to be possessed or demon-touched, which is why he often wears his tunic out of season. Nausico might be chased out of a bar, inn, shop, or town if he isn't careful to cover himself in highly suspiscious or cautious regions that display low levels of tolerance. (Meaning fearful of people 'out of the ordinary')

• Relationship with Family:
  Nausico does not remember his childhood or most anything of his past. If he did remember, he would realize that only his Father is alive today.

• Relationship with Friends:
  Because Nausico is different physically, he has developed a self-fulfilling prophesy of isolation. He has few, if any, real friends.
• Key Friends:
  Yala – a small spirit (if even), inaudible, nothing more than an orb of light that seems to float aimlessly around Nausico when he is feeling isolated, alone reflection, or mediation. Having named the small light Yala himself, Nausico sometimes talks to Yala aloud to ease his tensions.
• Key Enemies:
  Since Nausico is very 'different' physically, he is often persecuted by everyone around him. In fact, he is constantly roaming the land to escape not only persecution from other people, but also a group of men in red robes, who people refer to commonly as the “Men in Red” with their real name a closely guarded secret.

“Men in Red” – An organization, lead secretly by Nausico's father, attempting to capture Nausico for unknown reasons. Their past is heavily entwined with Nausico's, though Nausico only remembers enough to stay as far away from them as possible. And at all costs.

• Educational History:
  Nausico's travels have given him some 'education' on what the world is like, but he also does have excellent reading and writing skills acquired from his past education from both his mother and father (both well-educated scholars).
  His mother taught him most of what he knows from childhood, his father having taken over after her passing. What he learned from his father is mostly factual. Nausico often surprises himself by recalling very specific things about places and things... without remembering how he knows about them.
• Work History:
  Nausico has been a beggar / nomad for so long, he has extremely limited work experience. He is use to relying on himself, but understands and cares for the needs of others. He tries to help out when he can, but it inevitably leads to him being attacked more often than thanked.
• Skills:
  Nausico has a lot of knowledge of the world around him. Though he can't always remember everything at once (and sometimes erratically due to his amnesia) he has saved himself a few times by remembering that hidden passage of old or the depth of a river across the cliff-side during an escape.

Nausico's most notable skill is more magical. He has a deep and magical connection to his surroundings and environment. This allows him to 'feel' emotions from plants and animals, sense weather changes, and more noticeably, conjure elements. Using his powers, Nausico has avoided some disastrous confrontations with large bears and dire wolves as well as avoided the occasional, unpredicated rainfall.

His elemental conjury is limited. Large manifestations only appear during extreme or life threatening situations, though he is able to make small manifestations on his own but avoids doing so in front of others to keep attention away from himself.

• Phobias / Fears:

Nausico fears the color red, especially in robes, as they are commonly worn by the “Men in Red”.

He also fears hurting others with his magic! He tries to keep his magic constrained around other people at all times.

• Bad Habits / Vices:
  Nausico has a bad habit of freezing up during dire situations, becoming withdrawn when confronted, and not saying anything when he really should (or saying the wrong thing)
• Quirks:
  Nausico tends to zone out often, as if listening to something peculiar or more interesting than what you have to say. Sometimes this is true, but most of the time Nausico just finds the conversation boring. (He is a terrible conversationalist.)
• Best Qualities:
  Kind, Respectful, Friendly, Independent, Caring, Out-Going
• Worst Qualities:
  Shy, Timid, Weak, Ignorant, Tendency to push people away who show any affection towards him.
• Key Childhood Experiences:
  Loss of his mother

  Father's role in his past, connected ultimately to his physical appearance, amnesia, and fear of the “Men in Red”

  Nomad wanderer, constantly escaping persecution and discrimination.
• Sexual Background:
  Nausico hasn't really met this need (according to his 'Hierarchy of Needs'), but he shows Bisexual tendencies when the moments do arise. I give him a 3.5 on the Kinsey Scale.
• Favorites (food, clothing, art, music, TV show, movie, book, etc.)
  Food – Sea Harvest Soup (The East Breeze version of Chowder)
  Clothing – loose fitted, preferably cotton with optional layers (hoods, sleeves, gloves)
  Art – Nausico's favorite art form is oil painting.
  Music – favorite instrument : flute or ocarina, song : he tends to make them up if he can get his hands on an instrument... he doesn't sing.
• Personal Goals:
  Recover his memories, discover his purpose in the world, and find someone who cares for him (perhaps even love?)
• Professional Goals:
  Become a master at conjuring the elements, Learn to speak the secret language he can barely understand, and be able to understand his magical skills overall!
• Morality / Ethics:
  Nausico understands the value of life, but also can see both sides of the same coin. He tries not to judge people for their wrongs.
  There are some crimes that Nausico finds near unforgivable such as murder and deception (for a large personal gain), mostly if they directly involve him in some way.
• Style of Speech:
  Brief, to-the-point, and without much elaboration. He has a hard time explaining himself.
• Commonly Used Words / Slang / Jargon:
  “I just... wanted... I mean...”
  “Leave me alone!”
  “You're bothering me.” and usually not saying much at all. Sometimes when conjuring elements he begins to mutter to himself, although he usually isn't aware of it.
• Lies / Misinformation:
  The “Men in Red” often try to depict Nausico as a crimal, a demon, or a magical monster. Since the average commoner isn't very familiar with magical beings (or people with platnium hair and purple eyes) they believe the claims. Because of his amnesia, Nausico has come to terms with the fact that he must be some combination of them all, but is not entirely certain.
• Other Important Details:
  
  Nausico's past with his father and the “Men in Red” is something I'm working on. Hopefully this will get revealed as we progress!

IN DND TERMS:
Nausico is a Human, Sorcerer/Wizard Hybrid. He doesn't have an implement at the moment, so his magical powers are limited to what he can conjure himself. He is a basic striker with chaotic tendencies... but he hasn't proven himself much in a fight...
